Family Life
Joonwan Kim
Dr. Kim came to America in 1994 from Changwon, South Korea. He lived in Huntsville, Alabama, for a couple of months before returning to Korea to marry Sophia.
They settled back in Huntsville, AL, and started to raise a family. Robin was born in 1996, and Jenny was born soon after in 1999. Dr. Kim graduated with a doctorate in Electrical Engineering in 2003 and moved to Longview, Texas, to begin working at LeTourneau University.
In his spare time, he likes to play golf, watch movies, and fix up the car or the house.
Sophia
Sophia is an artist and has worked in art for almost her entire life. She graduated from Daegu University in South Korea with a degree in Western Art.
Sophia is currently a sales manager and in her spare time, likes to draw and play golf. Sophia has been attending Mobberly Baptist Church along with her family since they moved to Longview in 2003.
Robin
Dr. Robin Kim is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at LeTourneau University (www.letu.edu). He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Rice University. Prior to attending Rice, he graduated as Salutatorian of Spring Hill High School in Longview, Texas.
During his doctoral studies, Dr. Kim conducted research in signal processing and machine learning for neuroengineering applications as a member of the Luan Laboratory of Integrative Neural Interfaces (www.luanlab.net) at Rice University’s Bioscience Research Collaborative (brc.rice.edu). His professional interests include signal processing, machine learning, embedded systems, and intelligent engineering applications.
Jenny
Dr. Jenny Kim Rival is a Psychiatry Resident at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Baylor College of Medicine (www.bcm.edu) and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts from Brown University (www.brown.edu). Prior to attending Brown University, she graduated as Valedictorian of Spring Hill High School in Longview, Texas.
Her professional interests include psychiatry, mental health care, medical education, patient advocacy, and the delivery of compassionate, patient-centered care.
