For autonomous vehicles and drones to operate safely, they must be aware of each other’s location. The ability to verify the integrity of location data in autonomous vehicles will assist in passenger safety. We are focusing on the implementation and tuning of a method of location verification that utilizes Received Signal Strength (RSS) and GPS data.
Dedicated short-range communication devices are designed to control autonomous vehicles by transmitting data between them. The communication protocol (802.11p), while similar to Wi-Fi, is better suited for quickly moving devices. DSRCs communicate in an ad hoc network, sharing information such as location, road conditions, traffic, etc.
